Localizing Indicators of SDG11 for an Integrated Assessment of Urban Sustainability—A Case Study of Hainan Province

Rapid urbanization has brought many problems, including housing shortages, traffic congestion, air pollution, and lack of public space. To solve these the United Nations proposed “The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, which contains 17 Development Goals covering three dimensions: economy, society, environment. Among them, Goal 11 (SDG11), “Make cities human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient sustainable”, can be measured at city level. So far SDG11 still lacks three-quarters data required to accurately assess progress towards goal. In this paper, we localized indicators collected Earth observation data, statistical monitoring county levels build a better urban sustainable development assessment framework. Overall, found that Haikou Sanya were close achieving goals, while other some distance away. Hainan Province, there was spatial distribution pattern high in north south, but low middle west.
